Trivia: Nicolas Cage was considered for the role of Robert Neville back in 1998 along with director Rob Bowman, who was eventually moved on to direct The X Files (1998).

Goofs: Factual errors: When Neville opens the drawer in his lab and grabs the grenade, it is shown as a fragmentary grenade. However, when he sets it off, it explodes in a burst of flame. Fragmentary grenades explode without large flames and throw shrapnel. The explosion shown would have been from an incendiary grenade, which looks like an aerosol canister and not the rounded frag grenade.
